What’s new in Barrie

Lake 2

After a short hiatus, I am back and am reorganizing my blog a little bit. I will continue to post about estates and real estate, but I have decided to add in a post once a week about what is happening in Barrie. I love my city, and there is so much going on around here all the time. Here is what is happening this week:

All summer, the City will have Waterfront Ambassadors available. These people will be in downtown Barrie to answer your questions and help with directions.

There is a new disc golf course in Barrie at 434 Ferndale Drive North and is free to use. You can get more information here.

The Barrie Film Festival runs outdoor movies all summer as part of the Lawn Chair Luminata. On June 18, you can catch Field of Dreams at Heritage Park. More info here.

There will also be special programming on June 20 and 21 for National Aboriginal Day. On June 20, there will be a screening of Arctic Defenders. On June 21 there will be a free drop-in from 2-5pm at the Mady Centre, followed by a 20th anniversary screening of Dance Me Outside at the Uptown Theatre, featuring all three stars of the movie as special guests. Finally, there will be a reception back at the Mady at 9:30pm with musical performances by Plex and Digging Roots. Film tickets are $10, and the reception is $45. More information here.

On June 21 you can get outside for MEC Paddlefest Barrie from 9 until 5 at Centennial Park. The event is free, but you need to sign up by June 19 to ensure your space. You will get a chance to learn about kayaking, canoeing, and stand-up paddleboarding, as well as shop at the Paddle Swap. Full details here.

If you’re more into motorized vehicles, you may want to check out the Canadian All Truck Nationals at Burl’s Creek from June 21-22. General admission is $15, and it will feature a big rig show and shine classes. More details here.

Finally, this Sunday, June 22, brings the 10th annual Kids Fishing Day at Heritage Park. The event runs from 9am to 1pm and is open to children 13 and younger. Admission is free. You can find more details here.

That’s all for now. If you know about an event, please let me know and I’ll be glad to share it.
