I go to my dentist every nine months for a checkup. I see my doctor once a year, and my optometrist every two. Usually everything is fine, but it’s good to have a checkup on a regular basis to be sure.
Legal health checks are important, too. As Donald Rumsfeld, former Defense Secretary in the United States, once famously said, “There are a lot of unknown unknowns.” This is as true of the law as it is of medicine; if you don’t practice law or work regularly in the industry, you don’t know what you don’t know – and what you don’t know can, in fact, hurt you.
