How far would you go to be mortgage-free? Or maybe a better way to say it would be, how small would you go?
I have recently discovered the blog Hooked on Houses. Julia writes about all things house-related, from unusual listing pictures to movie houses to random house facts. This blog post in particular caught my attention: a family in Arkansas moved from a 2,500-square-foot home to a 320-square-foot shack in order to be mortgage free. (You can read a full article about the Jordan family here.) Their rationale? It made no sense to be working multiple jobs with no time for family, just to have stuff. Living in a smaller space means that they can afford to work less, which means more time for what’s important: their family.
While I find this admirable, I don’t know how I would feel about downsizing quite that far.
