The stigma of a death in the house

Death

DeathFor some people, the history of the people in the house they are buying is irrelevant; for some, it’s only relevant if there was something violent; and for others, any issues are important to know and address before deciding to go ahead with a purchase.

I had clients who bought a home this past summer, and found out from a neighbour after closing that a prior owner had committed suicide in the home. For these particular clients, this caused some emotional distress, as it would for many people. Unfortunately, however, they had not asked the sellers to confirm this had never happened, and so there was nothing to fall back on in getting compensation from the seller.

If this issue is important to you, get it in writing from the seller that they are unaware of any issues.
